I just got a sendspace account. Is there a way to search the site for certain kinds of files to download, or do I have to get someone to give me a link to download a file I may want?
No, you can't search the site. In my opinion, that's a good thing. Some people wouldn't want their personal data to be searchable. I would imagine, though I wouldn't do this personally, that people use services like Sendspace or Dropbox to upload professional documents or other backups that they might need. At least, Sendspace and Dropbox were always seen as the more professional file hosting services. Whether that's still true or not nowadays I don't know, but the short answer to your question is that you have to get links from people in order to be able to download anything from their servers.
if you wanna search for stuff you might try something like 4shared.com
True. There are also multi-purpose services that search many different sites for whatever keywords you type in, like filestube.com or rapiddigger.com.
I'd be careful what i downloaded, like check to be sure its not some sorta crapware/spyware/virous.
Well yeah, but that kinda goes without saying. On those sites, you'll see stuff that says "full version" and other such stuff that should raise an alarm in your head. Always be careful of what you download, no matter where you get it from. I run a virus scan on everything I download, too, just to be extra safe.
